Cederberg Ridge Wilderness Lodge is a beautiful, modern, luxury farm-style lodge just outside of Clanwilliam. The Cederberg alone is worth the 2 and a half hour drive (especially at this time of year, after plenty of rain) but I was so surprised by other things too, like the lodge’s exceptional food and that despite this being on the “fancy lodge” end of the scale, the staff are so comfortable and cool. It’s very refreshing. They opened late last year so while it’s still a new thing, I know it’s only a matter of time before you won’t be able to get a booking unless well in advance.
While leaving the lodge takes some motivation, because it's so beautiful and serene, activities in the Cederberg include traversing extraordinary hiking trails, mountain biking in the magnificence of the Cederberg, rock art excursions, Rooibos farm tours, wine tasting, star gazing, and swimming in natural pools and rivers. It gets baking hot over Summer but I've never been averse to heat and the lodge has a swimming pool overlooking untouched wilderness. In cooler weather, the lodge offers cosy fireplaces, giant bathtubs, delicious comfort food and a brand new spa for real unwinding.
This is easily one of the most beautiful places I've ever had the pleasure of spending a weekend.
