The best thing I discovered on my second trip to Zanzibar was the Navrattan Korma at Ma Sha Allah Café in Stone Town, with a side of freshly baked butter naan. It’s hard to imagine a curry standing up against crystal clear water, humidity (which I live for, even at its most intense), palm trees, blindingly white sand and the nicest nation of people in Africa. But then you haven’t tasted that curry. If like me you didn't know, a Navrattan Korma is a slightly sweet, creamy curry, made using fresh seasonal vegetables, nuts, raisins, saffron and mild spices. Simple. Essentially, what I'm saying, and right up front, is that if you go to Zanzibar, go to Ma Sha Allah.
